I have decided to change the format a bit for CareerEssentials since I’ve moved recently from Blogger to Wordpress. So, I have developed a Content Calendar for this blog with each day of the week having a different theme. I began yesterday with the Q&A session and for today and on coming Thursday’s I’ll be sharing reviews on books, blogs, and websites, and companies that can help job seekers, career changers and career conquerors.

Review Thursday

So for my first review I am going to discuss www.indeed.com.The website was founded in late 2004 and quickly became the leading online job search website which skyrocketed in membership and was voted by Time Magazine as one of the “Top 10 Websites” for 2007.

Indeed offers a clean and easy search parameter. The beauty of this site is that it is much more than just a job board. It is an aggregate search engine much like Google in that it pulls from thousands of job boards and websites both large like Monster and Career Builder and the small niche job boards such as Michigan Math Jobs, Toledo Sales jobs, or Houston finance jobs. Jobs can be search by location, category, job title or company and the selection of jobs is outstanding.

Now for the fun stuff! You can establish a free account, save searches and have new jobs delivered to you email or to other addresses. It has incredible information on trends and salaries, and forums to talk with other job seekers and career professionals for information and advice.

As a resume writer and career coach I suggest www.indeed.com to all my clients and usually if given the chance, to anyone I talk to about their career and job search. It is easy and very helpful to my clients. I keep it on my desktop and use it almost daily when working with clients and searching for leads. Can you tell I’m a fan?

If you haven’t used this search engine I suggest you give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

When looking for a new job, are you keeping in mind what employers are looking for? It is important to find a job that fits the criteria you have developed in order for a career to provide you with enjoyment, fulfillment, a challenge, and of course meeting your monetary needs. Although these may be your needs, it is imperative that you meet the criteria that employers are looking for.

According to the book “The First 90 Days” by Michael Watkins, employers don’t expect perfection in your early days with the company; they expect motivation and progress. They want to see your enthusiasm, your drive and initiative, and eventually your value.

It is important to keep this in mind as well, when interviewing for a position. Employers are looking for achievers, those who are willing to stretch and take a risk to make things happen. You can demonstrate this in an interview by arriving prepared with specific examples of achievement, knowing the history of the company and position, asking well thought-out questions and by appearing motivated and excited about the position.

Shine On Job Seekers!
