Continuing with my Content Calendar theme, today (actually yesterday) is Fun Friday where I write about anything. I’ll try and find some correlation to helping job seekers but some posts may just be random.

I pushed work aside for most of Friday to run up to my son’s college to start bringing his furniture, winter clothes and extra stuff home. The school wants dorm rooms cleaned out this week so the students can focus on finals next week. I understand and of course it’s a good idea, it just means 2 trips up to his school in 2 weeks. On the plus side it also means I get to see my son twice as much so I don’t mind.

The day took a little longer than I expected. Carrying loads down to the truck which wasn’t too far but it was not right near an exit. Then we tied down all the boxes, file cabinet, bike, rugs, and small refrigerator in the back of an old pick up we have – securing all the stuff in the back definitely has an art to it. Finally we did a few little errands and went to lunch. He is already set with living quarters for next year and a tentative school schedule in place. Very proud of my little boy, all grown up and handling things so well.

Driving home in the old 1995 Dodge Ram pickup (my kids share) which runs great but was quite loud because of its age and lack of a good window seal, I was thinking of my son. He will be out of school in just a few years and will be ready for succeeding into the business world.

What will make him a success? Success won’t come from his GPA, clubs he joins, activities he participates in, friends he meets or the jobs he works until then. All are very important in building his character but not his success. What will make him a success is his attitude. I really believe that.

I’ve talked with and seen resumes of thousands of job seekers. What makes a person succeed is their attitude. For those that know they can succeed, they will. They persevere, keep moving forward, and focusing on their success, not on other’s successes, or past failed attempts.

Attitude helps job seekers improve because of the dozen’s of resumes sent without success and job offers where they were passed over. It also helps keep confidence high – which is vital to nailing an interview. Especially in this tough economy where finding a job takes being proactive and emerging themselves in the search for fastest results.

I am thankful and expectant in my son’s future success – can’t wait to watch it unfold!

Shine On!
